Authority Magazine, Social Impact Authors: How & Why Author Martha Brown Is Helping To Change Our World

As the first woman to lead her multigenerational, family-owned furniture company, Martha Brown expanded it to over 170 employees with revenues exceeding $70 million. Transitioning from CEO to board member and coach, she was honored with the 2024 Vistage Legacy Award for her impactful leadership.

Martha recently discussed her accomplishments and what led her to writing a book on leadership with Authority Magazine.

Martha’s “aha moment” to share her message came after several industry peers encouraged her to write a book. Through her writing, she aims to impart best practices in leadership, hoping to create a positive ripple effect in society. She shares stories of individuals who’ve been empowered by her guidance, underscoring the significant impact of supportive leadership.

Her advice to aspiring writers includes being patient with the writing process, embracing its challenges, and persisting despite obstacles. She emphasizes the importance of continual reading, varied experiences, and staying true to one’s path. Her favorite life lesson quote, “Don’t let the turkeys get you down,” reminds her to maintain positivity in the face of negativity. If given the chance, she’d love to have lunch with Ernest Hemingway, whose work has profoundly influenced her journey as both a leader and a writer.
